LIGHT PLAY
The secret to husk-
wrapped votive holders,
above
, is
starting with a package of clean,
pressed, uniform husks for tamale-
making. (Find them at grocery
stores.) Soak a husk in warm water
for a minute to make it pliable, then
wrap it tightly around a votive
holder and secure with a rubber
band. Trim excess at top and
bottom. Tie a thin strip of twisted
husk around the center of the votive
and remove the rubber band.

GREAT GARLAND
To decorate a fence for fall,
above,
cut
rope 2 feet longer than the fence. Then twist screw eye
hooks (with openings about the same size as the rope
diameter) into the tops of mini ears of corn, one per ear.
Bend corn husks into loops and hot-glue the pointed ends
together. Thread the husks and ears onto the rope and
hang. If you like, lean a bundle of cornstalks and tuck in
viburnum berries and purple fountain grass.
SUNBURST
For an easy decoration that lasts year to year,
cover an 8-inch straw wreath form in corn husks,
right
Add husks one by one, spreading hot glue on the bottom
half the the husk and wrapping it around the wreath from
back to front. Repeat until the whole form is covered.
